Hello,
I am a mom with a daughter at Prisk Elementary School in Long Beach.
We are converting our spring carnival at the school to a science
theme. We have a number of science activities, demos, and displays for
the kids to look at and participate in, but we have nothing
representing geology. Our school is lucky enough to have a science
lab, and all of our kids learn about earth science, especially in the
fourth grade- when they study geology.
I was wondering if any of the clubs nearby ever do outreach programs
for kids. I'm a lurker on this board (I was briefly a geology major at
CSULB & I still like rocks!)and I remember someone was discussing
working with, or giving samples of rocks to schools. What we were
thinking of was something like a booth with displays of types of
rocks, some things that the kids could touch- and maybe even those
little geodes to crack open (for a fee, that the club could keep). Our
science carnival is April 19 from 4-7 P.M. Is anyone interested in
doing something like this? The kids would really enjoy it.
Regards,
Crystal Wysong
